Levy Sekgapane, tenor

Born in Kroonstad, South Africa, Levy Sekgapane studied with Kamal Khan and Hanna van
Niekerk at the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town.

In the course of his young career, he has already developed two signature roles: Il Conte Almaviva in Il BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA, which he sang in a new production at Glyndebourne Opera Festival, Opéra national de Paris, Vienna State Opera, German Opera Berlin and Opéra National de Bordeaux. And Don Ramiro in LA CENERENTOLA, performed at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse, Munich State Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Semperoper Dresden, Los Angeles Opera, Lyric Opera Boston and Zurich Opera, where he shared the stage with Cecilia Bartoli.

Besides that, he debuted the tenor roles in LES PECHEURS DE PERLES (Cape Town), DON PASQUALE (Vienna, Bari), Rossini's OTELLO (Frankfurt), I PURITANI (Paris), La SONNAMBULA (Munich), IDOMENEO (Salzburg), SEMIRAMIDE (Berlin), DIE ENTFÜHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL (Paris) and TIME OF OUR SINGING (Brussels).

In concert, he has performed with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, the BBC National & Concert Orchestra, the Spanish National Orchestra and the Copenhagen Phil. Levy is the first prize winner of the Belvedere International Singing Competition (2015), the Monserrat Caballé Singing Competition (2015) and Placido Domingo´s OPERALIA (2017).
